HISTORY
January 1983
- A pilot plant for structured waters was designed in the Research Laboratory
for Structured Waters, located at 18, Dumbrava Rosie Street, Bucharest.
May 1983
- The pilot plant was put into operation, due to the efforts of Prof. Dr. Ioan
Manzatu, the author of the invention relating to structured waters, patented in
1981, helped by a technician and a laboratory assistant.
1983-1984
- Based on the first results obtained, a semi-industrial pilot plant was built
and the first application in antibiotics production started at Iassi
Antibiotics Factory.
1985 -
The year of the first results at industrial scale, by producing penicillin with
structured water. A biosynthesis rate increase by 55% was reached. A
significant number of outstanding inventions were patented.
1985-1987
- A period of extensive experiments with structured waters, on grain and
vegetable crops, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
1987 -
The Research Laboratory for Structured Waters was integrated in The Central
Institute for Chemistry.
1987-1990
- Based on research contracts, a profitable cooperation started with Curtea de
Arges Protein Factory (ROMPROTEIN), the only national producer of bioproteins
at industrial scale in Romania.
1991 -
The Centre for Biotechnologies S.A. was set up, originated from the former
Research Laboratory for Structured Water.
1991-1993
- An intensive R&D activity was carried out by the specialists of the
Centre for Biotechnologies in fields such as: activated and structured aqueous
solutions, biotechnologies, biologically active products, fine chemical
synthesis products, biochemical synthesis products, enzymatic biosynthesis
products, ecology, pattern recognition systems, a.s.o. Other important
inventions were also patented.
April 1993
- By Governmental Decision no. 146 of April 26, 1993, a new company, namely
BIOTEHNOS S. A. was set up, including the structure of the Centre for
Biotechnologies.
After years of studies, the first
pharmaceuticals: ALFLUTOP® - injectable solution for
the treatment of degenerative rheumatic diseases and ARMON® -
cream for the treatment of burns and wounds caused by different
ethiological agents, natural products based on in-house technologies, were
authorized by the Romanian Ministry of Health.
1994 - A
decisive year for BIOTEHNOS. The R&D activity was naturally followed by
practical applications and technology transfer; the new pharmaceutical and
cosmetic products were assimilated into production.
1995-1997
- The production of biopharmaceuticals and biocosmetics was started
simultaneously with their penetration on the Romanian market of medicinal drugs
and registration of some product dossiers in the Russian Federation and
Ukraine.
1997 -
R&D international cooperation with Hungary and Greece. Structured waters
technology transfer to ESTEE LAUDER, USA, one of the world`s leader company in
cosmetics. Signing of an important agreement with a Chinese company for
establishing a joint venture in Guangzhou, aiming to manufacture natural
pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, based on BIOTEHNOS technologies.
1998 -
Privatisation of BIOTEHNOS S.A (83% Romanian capital, 13% German capital).
December 1998 - The
invention related to Structured Waters, the main active ingredient of most
BIOTEHNOS natural pharmaceutical and cosmetic products - was granted a patent
in the USA, which was followed, in October 1999, by a patent
granted also in the USA for the invention related to Bioactive Concentrate, the
active ingredient of ALFLUTOP® - injectable solution.
The two inventions have also registered international application for patenting
in many other countries.
1996-2000
- The innovative value of the BIOTEHNOS specialists was highly appreciated
abroad, their inventions and products being rewarded by the jury of the
international exhibitions, such as: 3 gold and 2 bronze medals at the 24-th
International Exhibition of Inventions, Geneve, 1996; 3 gold, 3 silver and 2
bronze medals at the 27-th International Exhibition, Geneve, 1999; 4 gold, 1
silver, 1 bronze medals at "EUREKA 99", Bruxelles; 1 silver, 2 bronze medals at
the-28-th International Exhibition, Geneve, 2000; the JEROME cup, 1 Genius and
1 bronze medals at "Genius 2000", Budapest; 1 gold medal and 1 mention at the
International Inventions Fair, London 2000.
Registration of BIOTEHNOS main
pharmaceutical and cosmetic products abroad.
2000 - A
crucial year for BIOTEHNOS, the year of a new strategy aiming to launch
BIOTEHNOS as an innovative company in the highly prospective field of
biotehnology, with highly efficient implications in the life of company.
2001-2004
- R&D activity carried out within BIOTEHNOS S.A. was integrated into
the new structure of R&D National Programs. Following the competitions held
in 2001 and 2002, BIOTEHNOS won several projects within the National
Programs BIOTECH, RELANSIN, AGRAL and VIASAN.
Of the most important projects
aiming at developing some biotechnologies for obtaining and purification of
some plant biologically active substances and production of some
pharmaceutials, mention should be made of the following: "Immunomodulatory
phytotherapeutical product for veterinary use" and "Development of a plant
bioproduct with a blocking action in animal carcinogenesis".
